The Lions first match of the year lined them up against the North York Astros. This would be a good test to see how the Lions have performed in training and preparation for the 2008 CSL season.
The Brampton Lions FC kicked off and applied pressure straight away. A great through ball by Daniel Nascimento led Adolfo Mella onto a clear chance at goal that was shot just wide of the Astros goal. The Lions committed to a 4-5-1 formation which allowed the defense of the Astros to pick out the runs of Mella not giving him time on the ball.
There were moments where the team worked well together and created good chances. Despite this the Lions were unlucky as the Astros midfielder Go Nagaoka crossed the ball into the box leaving Carlos Zeballos to head home the first goal of the game. Ten minutes later in the 37th minute, Selvin Lammie was taken down in the box, leaving the referee no choice but to point to the penalty spot. Gomez guessed right but could not stop the powerful shot by Marko Pacione.
On Saturday, May 3rd, the Lions face up against the Italia Shooters, who enter the game with a 0-0-2 record in the pre-season. Head Coach Armando Costa and Manager Victor Cameira are determined to press hard for the game and get the first win of the exhibition series.
